Commentary on city conditions
In many Indian cities, Britishers started civil lines ( for officers ), cantonment ( where they placed army), company garden, red light area, police lines, government intermediate college, club, public library among other things mainly for their use. Under Western influence, now a good city is that one which has a city center, mall, shopping center, multiplex, pub, beauty salon, underground metro train, international school, sky scrappers, call centers, cyber cafe and many more. But what about slums, pavement encroachments, dust, unnecessary blowing of horns even in silent zones, use of loud speakers throughout night which deprives sick, old, and tired people and students of sleep ( a fundamental right ), street dancing during festivals and marriage processions, smoking in public places, breaking of queues, common property and open space occupation, sitting on reserved seats in trains, buses, cinema halls, restaurants and even travelling with luggage on the roofs of trains and buses, hanging outside of buses and trains, abundance of street dogs every where ( they are not dumb and even those who are reared by people because of their pedigree keep barking during night ), add in this in exhaustive list monkeys in cities, betel and paan masala stains on stair cases, absence of proper toilets particularly for women, filthy wash rooms, pitiable road conditions and recurring power cuts ?
