Study of Himalayan conditions is a serious issue

I drove to Gaurikund with my wife and small kids in 1996 and then on foot we went 14 Km.  to Kedarnath in 8 hours. Kedar Dome stood an unconquered full of ice forming the background of Kedarnath Temple. Next day we came downhill on foot which took 5 hours. On return I drove to Gangotri  via Bahirav Ghati stayed at Harshil the drove to Badrinath via Joshimath. While coming back I had to drive through actual rocks rolling down from the hillbut somehow I dared and no rock hit the car. There was 1 big landslide near Tehri town and I was forced to leave highway take a detour and drive through narrow town lanes. What I suggest that the time is overdue for the scientists to study Himalayan conditions. Otherwise laymen and self proclaimed experts will have their say. This is a very very serious issue for our country and for the world climate. Why not use the 'drone' technology for minimizing disasters?

BHU and Mahamana Malviya

There are many tales to be told when one starts unfolding. BHU is my Alma mater since 1969 when I entered as a student till today where I am a professor. BHU has seen ups and downs being a part of national processes. But one thing I am sure of that this institution is great for many reasons. It is arguably only full fledged university in the world constructed on donations. For this founder Mahamana Malviya ji used his amazing power of pursuing over the then Indian feudal and big business. Their names are still recognized on many buildings, hostels in addition to the names of great people. On his instance top scholars from all over the country joined the institution on meager salary to build this center of leaning. He invited people of all faiths on equality to study here. And all this happened o create a secular blend of modern and traditional knowledge, research and innovative education. In fact BHU is a brand in itself. Hardly needs any ranking.

They in Media and Science

This in fact is for the expert scientists to do a study and judge. About hydro power and other prevalent technology of power generation including peaceful nuclear, coal based etc. this is quite popular paradigm to assess the cost that the environment and the inhabitants have been observed paying. Insurmountable cost but then how to generate electricity? Sure not at the cost of peoples' life and property but then any country - India too - shall never lag behind in development. The only option is to explore technologically and commercially viable alternate sources of energy ( solar is one example, wind is another ) but their efficiency, viability, cost effectiveness and wider use. i must add that speaking in media or social network can create some sort of public opinion which may be changed into public decision but this decision shall not hamper the genuine progress of the society and development of the country. We must address our grievance to science and technology for a solution.

16 June, 2013 my no way death, today.

"To miss a death

My times was in time for missing a life

In harmony it was the strife

Then and there the time was not a fruit to eat

To beat the world the time was not even half ripe

But I kept my appointment with death in my imagined way to miss a death I took a
breath."

Manjeet, Father's Day on Death
